Goon des garcon* Sheesh! review

When using the term contemporary artist, we often look for their work to reflect the times, in a way that is applicable to the real world. But within the last year, many of us have existed solely on the internet through the use of social media. Goon Des Garcon* reminds us that the term contemporary artist, in it’s understanding, is in need of an update. From the title alone, ‘SHEESH!’, which we’ve heard popularized through the use of TikTok, signaling your generational standing and awareness amidst the revolving trends.

Serving as GDG* Def Jam debut release, ‘SHEESH!’ takes us on a journey of self-discovery, from the Arkansas born and LA-based artist. Featuring the previously released “A24” featuring Cuco and “Bully” featuring Na-Kel Smith, Goon has established himself amongst the rising acts outside of the mainstream sphere. Ushering us into the chaotic world he’s found himself navigating with standout tracks such as “Cavin’ In”, “Miami/Hollywood”, and “JFC”. GDG* allows himself the space to feel introspective, without losing the feeling and momentum holding us in a dissociated trance.

Overall ‘SHEESH!’ provides a sample of the versatility possessed by Goon Des Garcon*, with features from Fredo Bang, Reese LAFLARE, Landstrip Chip and frequent collaborator Tan The Terrible. All making ‘SHEESH!’ an infectious listen that calls for the outside world where its energy can be exchanged back and forth. We hope to hear more of Goon Des Garcons* candid journeys. But until then, listen to ‘SHEESH!’ down below via Spotify.
