Masicka Holds Exclusive Listening Session For Upcoming Album ‘438’

On Tuesday, November 16th, The Playground got a chance to sit down with the rising Reggae/Dancehall artist, Masicka, during the exclusive listening session for his upcoming new project ‘438’ - held at New York City’s legendary Quad Studios (powered by Destine Media).
The 16-track new project, ‘438’ - set to be released on Friday, December 3rd - was previewed for attendees, with Masicka taking time between each track to explain the process and backstory behind each song. Even before the album is released, its lead single, ”Love Story”, released last month is off to a great start, already with over 1.7M views on Youtube.
The Playground’s Disney got a chance to speak to Masicka following the album’s exclusive playback. Masicka spilled about some of the artists he’s currently listening to, his musical inspirations, and what fans can expect to see from him next.

Q: So how are you today? You're in New York City. You just shared your latest project before its release, how are you feeling?
Masicka: Feeling Great. It’s great that I can have, have some people listen to the experiences listen to the project share the vibes share the energy.
Q: So what can fans expect from this album?
Masicka: I don't know really. Just a lot of lyrics. A lot of cleverness, a lot of feelings. With the music a lot of nice vibes - a different sound and different energy.
Q: Who's currently on your playlist?
Masicka: I listen to Drake, Pooh Sheisty, Bounty Killa, artists like dem
Q: So would you say you’re a certified lover boy?
Masicka: (Laughs) No
Q: The song “10 out of 10” is one vibe, and “Love Story” is a whole other vibe. How do you differentiate how you want to move on a track?
Masicka: Well you know me and the rhythm, to be honest, I just go with the flow of the rhythm. Sometimes it depends on how I feel. If I wanna make a dance track, I just listen to the beat in the studio a couple of times. I don’t actually write I just vibe, and whatever vibe comes to mind, I go in the studio and freestyle a couple of times till I find vibe I’ma go off. With me, I do the music based off my feeling, so if I feel like I’m in a love story type of vibe I go write about that - or if I wanna make some girls party I’ll make something like a “10 out of 10” type of vibe.
Q: So talk to me about “Love Story.”
Masicka: You know “Love Story” is just a track I think everybody can relate to. Everybody has been in love before and out of love, so I just wanna talk about that experience
Q: What inspired the visuals?
Masicka: Big up RD studio, they’re the ones that shot the video.
Q: Are there artists you can see yourself collaborating with outside of Dancehall?
Masicka: Well I think I’ve actually collaborated with most people that I’ve wanted to. Other than that, you know, I’d like to collaborate with some of the mainstream acts - my longtime favorite artists like Lil Wayne, 50 Cent, artists like that.
Q: So what can we expect next from you?
Masicka: Just a lot of work as usual. More albums, more projects, more videos, more songs, more success, more blessings.
